Remembrance Day Service 2025

Remembrance Day, also known as Armistice Day or Poppy Day, is observed on November 11th each year to commemorate the end of World War I. Hostilities formally ceased on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month in 1918, when the Armistice with Germany took effect.

In 1914 the Australian population was 4.9 million. The total male population was 2.56 million, of which just over 1 million were between the age of 18 and 40. In the years of 1914 to 1918 - 416,809 men enlisted to fight (38.7% of total male population between 18 and 40) and 60,284 died in service with a further 155,133 being wounded/gassed in action.  When the war ended the soldiers still suffered, many were severely disabled whilst others carried mental scars to their deathbeds. Many could not resume a normal life, many committed suicide, the exact numbers will never be known.

A massive sacrifice for such a small country.

Remembrance Day service in Collie was held at Soldiers Park staring at 10:40 AM. Despite being mid-morning on a working day, we had a solid turn-out for this special event. One of the highlights of this years’ service was the singing of the Australian National Anthem by the Collie Senior High School Anzac Tour Group.
